The People’s Pie maker Pukka has launched two tasty vegan treats, a Vegan Chicken & Mushroom pie, and a Vegan Minced Steak & Onion pie, both available in the UK from 16th September.
Britain is known for great things. The Queen. Roast dinners. The Beatles and David Beckham. Fast forward to 2020 and Pukka – the UK’s favourite pie brand – has brought another iconic British staple to the table by reinventing two of its well-loved flavours to make them vegan, complete with The Vegetarian Society Approved vegan trademark.
Fresh out of the oven is Pukka’s brand-new Vegan Chicken & Mushroom pie. A family favourite recipe for over 57 years, now’s the time for vegans, meat reducers and flexitarians to tuck in and enjoy. Encased in 144 layers of Pukka’s signature golden puff pastry, soy protein vegan ‘chicken’ pieces are married with sliced mushrooms and a savoury vegan creamy sauce.
But as The People’s Pie, Pukka wanted to give shoppers two tasty options to choose from – cue Pukka’s Vegan Minced Steak & Onion pie, which offers a new take on this traditional recipe. Minced soy protein vegan ‘steak’ has joined the Pukka family, and has been perfectly paired with finely chopped onions and a rich gravy. For a hearty meal, pair these pies with a dollop of tasty mash or chunky chips and a side of fresh veg.
“As the People’s Pie, we want to make sure there’s a Pukka for everyone. Shoppers are increasingly looking for tasty meat-free options but don’t necessarily want to spend hours cooking,” explains Rachel Cranston, Head of Marketing at Pukka.
“Our two Vegan pies tick both these boxes and they’re an exciting addition to our well-loved range, with recipes people recognise and know Pukka for. So, if people are looking for a vegan pie to enjoy, there’s now two tasty Pukka pies available for them to tuck in to and enjoy with their friends and family,” concludes Cranston.
Vanessa Brown from the Vegetarian Society adds:
“The popularity of vegan food and drink products shows no signs of slowing down, and this is thanks to brands like Pukka launching tasty vegan options. It helps to give people increasing variety and these tasty pies have been accredited with the Vegetarian Society Approved vegan trademark which will appeal to a lot of shoppers looking for their next vegan-friendly meal.”
You’ll find Pukka’s Vegan Chicken & Mushroom and Vegan Minced Steak & Onion pies in the pie aisle of Morrisons from 16th September and Sainsbury’s vegan aisle from 23rd September (RRP £1.89). Pukka’s Vegan pies will continue to roll out in supermarkets nationwide throughout the rest of the year.
